This course on security studies aims to provide a general framework of the field first by introducing the traditional and critical approaches to the concept of security. The most vital contemporary security issues such as global terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, cyber-security which are generally analysed through the traditional approaches and the intra-state conflicts of various kinds, ethnic and sectarian conflicts, illegal migration, and the environmental security will be discussed as examples that are studied through the critical approaches, will be overviewed throughout the classes. There will be a mix of lecture and class discussions and the students are expected to participate to the discussions.
