The aim of this course is to undertake a brief survey of classical Greek, Roman and North European literatures with special emphasis on the epic and dramatic genres through the study of exemplary texts, which is essential for a better understanding and appreciation of all Western literature and art, and to acquaint them with the main literary genres and conventions through the study of extracts from the original texts.
